The Eucharist

The Eucharist is at the centre of the life of every Catholic parish. On Sundays and important Feast Days we gather as a community to hear the Word of God, to offer our prayers, and to receive the Body and Blood of Christ.

About 1100 people attend Sunday Masses at St Mary Mother of God. Simpler Masses are celebrated every morning and evening through the week.

Sunday Masses at St Mary Mother of God

Our regular Sunday Mass times are 6.30pm on Saturday evening and 8.00am, 9.30am and 11.30am on Sunday morning.

The Vigil Mass at 6.30 pm on Saturday evening is popular with many of the young people of the parish. The 8am Mass on Sunday morning is the quietest of our Sunday services. The 9.30am Mass is a Family Mass, with more modern music. It is followed by a coffee morning in the Church Hall. The 11.30am Mass is accompanied by more traditional music. On alternate Sundays there is a quality choir.

There is a mass for the Syro Malabar community at 4.30pm every second Sunday of the month.

Weekday Masses

On weekdays we have two daily services. During term time, morning Mass is at 8.30am. Children and parents from St Mary’s Primary School are encouraged to come to this Mass. Each day year-5 and year-6 children read the scripture readings, serve at the altar and bring up the gifts. During school holidays, this Mass is normally at 9.00am, and on bank holidays times may vary. On Saturday, the Mass is at 12.00 noon with emphasis on people with special needs. A simple Mass is held at 7.30pm each weekday evening.

Holy Days of Obligation

Masses for Holy Days of Obligation are celebrated at 7.30pm on the preceding evening, and at 8.30am and 7.30pm on the day. Special arrangements are made for a school mass in the church on those days.

Arrangements for Christmas and Easter services are announced on our Bulletin & Diary pages.
